A - «Modern Style» (For almost all boats made since at least 20 years)

Since 1972, all boats manufactured in or imported to the United States have been permanently marked with a Hull Identification Number or HIN. Like a Vehicle Identification Number given to automobiles, the HIN is used to identify each boat. A boat hull identification number, which is commonly referred to as a HIN or hull ID, serves the same basic purpose as a vehicle serial number. It not only provides a unique vessel identifier, but facilitates tracking of manufacturer defects for recall purposes.

1st character - H

It is always a letter. It identifies the month of construction according to the following table.The rank of the letter in the alphabet is the one of the month in the calendar. It may not be larger than “L”.

2nd character - 8

It is a digit. It is the last figure of the build year of the hull. Must be the closest to the model year.

3rd and 4th character - 99

Represents the two last figures of the model year.
